BOOKHOUSE BOYS was an experimental theatre company lead by Maritea Dæhlin and Jo Hellier. Their passion lies in making imaginative, engaging theatre incorporating aspects of pop culture, surrealism and visual performance. They start working with a clear theme, but not a clear aim, following their instincts and trusting their imaginations, allowing a world to develop that is out of their hands.
To the would be father and the would be brother is an experimental theatre performance devised by BOOKHOUSE BOYS. It was born from a personal research into a one word theme Death. Death served as a heart for the project, a word that stayed at the centre of our research that was tested, stretched and explored from every angle. To the would be father and the would be brother bravely experiments with musicality, strong imagery, movement, a 50kg rock, a microphone, two women and a golden dress. The audience is invited to join us on a journey into the unknown.
to the would be father and the would be brother has been shown between 2010 and 2012 at Central School of Speech and Drama (London), Falmouth University (UK), Aberystwyth Arts Centre (Wales), Dartington College of Arts in Devon, Cafeteatret (Oslo), Centro de las Artes San Agustin (Oaxaca, Mexico) and at Ontico in (Chiapas, Mexico).
